Awww yeah. It’s on the inside of my left bicep/upper arm.
I got it because a) it’s sort of to memorialize the people close to me that have died (maternal grandfather, aunt, great-uncle, and two of my best friends lost a parent within like a year and a half of each other) and that will die, and b) it’s a Sirius Black quote, and he’s mah boiiii. And I chose to get it in that spot because it’s easy to care for since my mom isn’t at college with me so I have to take care of it myself, and because I can choose to show it off or hide it with no problems. :)
On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the least amount of pain, I would say that while I was getting it done, it was between a 6 and a 7, but afterwards, it was easily an 8 or 9. It doesn’t hurt too bad now, though (probably because I took Advil earlier).
And I totally fainted right after I got it done. I had to lay down for 15 minutes while the artist, Adam, was doing it, and when he was done, he told me to stand up and make sure I liked it. I felt completely fine, so I didn’t think anything of it. About 2 minutes after I stood up and he had finished putting the bandage on, Adam was telling me how to care for it. My hearing was the first thing to go, so I heard “Put lotion on it” and then I just saw him say “4-6 times a day” but I couldn’t hear what was coming out of his mouth. I tried to warn him to say that I was passing out, but I couldn’t talk. As soon as I saw him say “4-6 times a day,” two black clouds kinda pushed their way into my vision from either side, and I felt my eyes roll back.
I remember that while I was down, I felt like I was in a very fast-paced dream. I was standing at an intersection not far from where the shop is in real life, and all these pickup trucks were zooming by. No cars, no vans, no buses; just trucks. One truck honked on its way past me, and that’s when I came to.
I opened my eyes and saw a guy on either side of me. Adam was on my left, and this other artist that was working (we’ll call him Keith, cuz I have no idea what his name is but from my Facebook creeping, there’s about a 50% chance that it actually is his name) was on my right. I looked at Keith, then at Adam, and made this face like “And I’m on the floor because…?” Keith goes, “Are you ok? We’re gonna help you stand up and get lay back down on the table,” and I responded, “Ok, cool” quite clearly.
They helped me back onto the table and I laid down and crossed my arms while I tried to recover. Adam and Keith were standing on either side of me again, and started talking to me to make sure I was ok. Meanwhile, my friend Linday had been back in the room when I fainted, so she ran out to the waiting area and made my friend Emily come back with me. There were these two big, heavily tattooed black guys waiting, and apparently when Lindsay told them that I had fainted, they took off and decided they should come back another day.
Anyway, so then Keith started telling me about what happened when I fainted. He had been standing directly behind me, and said that all of a sudden, he felt my head and left shoulder hit his right shoulder, which knocked him forward almost onto the metal table he had been working at. He quickly turned around, realized I was falling, and caught my head literally inches before I cracked open my skull on this big metal toolbox. He said they set me down on the floor with my back and head resting against said toolbox, and then I came to. And when I fell, I somehow managed to scrape up my left elbow (the arm I had work done on), so that was throbbing worse than the tat at that time.
After like 3 minutes of laying on the table, Adam asked me if I wanted to sit up and get my bearings before standing up again, and he gave me a can of Pepsi to drink to get my sugar back up. Eventually I was able to stand and walk on my own and everything, but that was the first time I’ve ever fainted and it felt so weird.
Oh, and when I told my mom, she legit started crying because I didn’t tell her beforehand as a heads up. She’s lucky I told her today though, cuz I was planning on surprising her next weekend when I go home for my high school’s homecoming weekend. :P
